World Gin Day 2020

Always the second Saturday in June …

This very special date should go in every gin lover’s diary, and is the ‘ginspiration’ from its founder, Neil Houston, back in 2009 – whose idea it was to bring his friends together to drink gin in Birmingham.

Fellow blogger Emma Stokes, aka Gin Monkey, and her friend Neil, were already what Emma describes as ‘firm gin-friends,’ so in 2010 joined forces with friends in London, to celebrate the tipple at a Soho gin bar called Graphic. Since then the day has grown year on year, reaching an ever-increasing audience.

In 2013 Emma formally took charge of the organizing, due to Neil’s work commitments; and the day has since evolved into a truly global celebration with events running in more than 30 countries around the world, reaching over 200 million people via various social platforms.

To Emma, the concept is simple … ‘get people enjoying gin together all over the world.’

World Gin Day is always the second Saturday in June; the reason being that the following Sunday is recovery day.

Due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, this year’s World Gin Day will, not surprisingly, have to be celebrated virtually – and your GINbloggers here in Devon will be having a quiet couple on the decking; if this rain ever stops.
